About Zynk Audio

Getting the sound you want doesn’t need to be complicated.

Hi, I’m Trevor Szynk, founder and obsessive coffee drinker behind Zynk Audio.

I have spent most of my working life in the music industry – from head of technical support for a leading music software brand, studio installer and advisor, music teacher and freelance sound engineer.

For several years I was chief designer for a popular boutique mic brand, winning a NAMM TEC award and two MusicTech ‘Gear of the Year’ awards.

Like most of us, I’ve been in a band and I own way too much gear, mainly microphones. And valves. Lots of valves. And Bakelite….

I now work from my bothy workshop on a farm in south west Scotland developing Zynk Audio products and bespoke mics and audio gear.

Design Philosophy

Firstly, I never do the maths when I’m designing new circuitry. As a musician and engineer, I know exactly the sound I am aiming for, the ‘playability’ I want ( which is as important as the final sound) and that extra something that makes a piece of gear special.

I understand the components I am working with and will experiment with up to 100+ versions of each layout before committing to the final design that gives me that perfect final result.

I have built a rig in my workshop that allows me to control, in real time, the various elements of a circuit before committing to the final layout and I physically record every iteration of the component combinations throughout the process. I might revisit any of my recordings to use on another project.

I was once labelled ‘The Mad Professor’ by a good friend in the industry- some of my mic circuitry might be considered unorthodox, but my creative process was trusted and the awards followed.

It’s not always about re-inventing the wheel, it can also be about those tiny tweaks that give you that subtlety and finesse that can make for great gear.
